History, history and more history...

I have been a serious slacker in regards to this whole blogging thing lately. I don't really have a good excuse other than I have just not been in the mood to update. Also, I have this feeling that you all care about as much about me updating our blog as I do... which is not a whole heck of a lot. :)
BUT I thought since we went on a great trip across the country almost a full month ago, I should probably post about it before I completely forget or it becomes such old news that it is pointless to write about it. Although, this blogging thing is kind of more of a journal for us than anything. ANYWAY, DAve and I went on the American Heritage tour with my youngest sister Hailey. We took a ridiculous number of pictures and saw an even more ridiculous number of things on this trip so I picked a random assortment of pictures to share. We went to Baltimore, New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Gettysburg, and lots of other places that I can't think of right now but I'm sure they are super historic and important. We visited the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Sturbridge Village, Arlington Cemetery, the Holocaust Museum (which was amazing, you should go), Mount Vernon, saw Wicked on Broadway (also amazing and you should go), went on a ghost tour of Gettysburg at night (maybe not quite as amazing but our tour guide said she was a psychic medium and she read our auras, mine was silver), toured the White House, visited the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Korean War memorial, Air and Space Smithsonian Museum, Ground Zero, the spot where John Lennon was shot, the Fox Theatre (where Lincoln was shot) and a lot more. Our days were pretty much packed completely full of historic goodness. Here are a few of the things I learned on this trip.
1. My little sister is an amazing young woman. I already knew this but I just realized it even more.
2. As I suspected, I am not a history buff. At all. There are many things I am interested in and enjoy learning about but, in general, history is not really one of them. Or at least not for 8 days straight.
3. Broadway plays are amazing. I didn't think I was really a person to enjoy theatre all that much but seeing Wicked on Broadway changed my perspective on that.
4. I am glad I am not a middle school teacher.
5. I would much rather NOT go on guided tours. Especially 15 guided tours per day for 8 days.
6. I am glad I am not a middle school teacher.
7. My little sister is an amazing young woman. :)
8. I am proud to be an American.

Fort McHenry-- aka where the national anthem was written.

Arlington Cemetery

Mount Vernon--- aka George Washington's sweet pad
A painting of my Dad in his younger years on a wall in an Italian restaurant in New York City :) Not really but it does look an awful lot like him... hmm...
From the top of the Empire State Building

A sculpture that they dug from the rubble of the Twin Towers and is now in Battery Park in NYC...

On the ferry to Ellis Island...

Sturbridge Village... a village where everything is set up like the 1840s... pretty cool place...

People showing their support and opposition to the health care bill. This was the day they were voting on it.

So that is how we spent our spring break! It was so fun to spend time with Hailey and great to be able to see everything that we did.

I like it when you update your blog :) I would LOVE it if you came to Chicago. I promise no guided tours and no history, but for sure Broadway :) Wow that is Hailey? How old was she last time I saw her? Two? That is crazy. She is super cute. I'm glad you guys had fun, we would really like to do that trip someday too, but hauling three kids 2 and under around would be quite the nightmare so I think it will have to wait a few years, in the meantime I will just enjoy other people's pictures. Thanks for sharing. Ps do you remember when I wore a bright orange tie-die swim suit over some other ridiculous clothing and we (w/ Quin) visited Coach Stanton (is that the right name)? I have pictures to prove it. Looking back, I wonder what in the world he thought when he opened the door and saw us standing there. Oh dear, we were dorks.

How fun!! I bet Hailey loved the fact that you guys went with her! I went on that trip back in the day and I can hardly remember anything that we did because I was sooo tired. They pack way too much into a short trip. It was definitely worth it, though. Glad you guys had fun!

Thanks for the update! I for one look forward to your posts (but then I'm old and still like to read and see pictures - does that mean I'm entering my second childhood?)
I actually went on that trip when Jaron was in the 9th grade - as a Middle school/junior high teacher. WHAT was I thinking? It really was a fantastic trip and "somewhere" I have loads of photos that document it.

We saw Phantom of the Opera back then - Wicked probably not having been written, let alone on Broadway. I have to concur about the wonders of live preformances.
How cool that you got to spend that time with your sister (last time I saw her she was a baby!) and your cute hubby.
Keep posting! You always make me smile! (Yes. Do it for me. I"m selfish :0)
